Carbon bamboo rods?
A profound thought: bamboo, like all life on earth, is made from carbon.
It has taken me 30 years to realise that the split cane bamboo rods I've so loving used, and the carbon rods I accused of being 'lifeless', are not that different. I was using carbon all along.
Ooh. It feels liberating.
At last, I can use bamboo or carbon without any guilt. They are one in the same.
I reckon this closes the debate on rod materials.
Phew.
No more debate. Just go fishing.
If you like this blog, you might like Traditional Angling Evolution, a chapter from my Book of Secrets. In it I highlight that traditional angling is a mindset rather than being something to do with vintage tackle. Angling is a leisure pursuit, a pleasant recreation, a pastime. It's not meant to be serious or overly competitive. Too many rules (such as imposing what tackle can and can't be used) detract from the freedom that's possible from spending time in and amongst nature. And, like the waterside world in which it exists, one's angling is fluid and meant to move on. What is modern today will be seen as traditional in the future. So fish with whatever tackle brings you pleasure. Embrace today. Go fishing.
